Hey guys, I picked a Lowrance Elite 4x hdi ice machine yesterday and have been toying around with it to get the hang of all the options. Does anyone have any experience using one of these? Just wondering what the best ice fishing options and modes are for it. Its pretty straightforward but theres a lot I do not understand. I am new to ice fishing the last couple years and this is my first fish finder I have personally owned. Thanks!

I have had for more than 2 ice fishing reasons an ELITE-5 (not ELITE-4) series finder, but the two have the same firmware/settings, and I have gone through all different "combinations" on the settings, until last winter I found the below one, and followed it to the letter, and finally got the setting right, I'd say (in that finally on 120 feet deep water fishing for lakers/whitefish I could see my lure, and I could see fish (laker) swim up following my lure, and bite!:-)
So here is the setting, and hopefully it helps!
Reset all settings: Menu/Menu/System/Restore Defaults Run Wizard - yes Lakes - yes ice fishing - no (THAT'S CORRECT. We are talking about setting for ice fishing, but we must set this "ice fishing" mode to NO!!!!) Less than 60 feet - no Advanced - yes
Menu/settings/sonar: mode - deep water Noise rejection - off/lowest Surface clarity - off
Menu: AUTO SENSIVITY - off Range/Custom- UPPER - 20, LOWER - a couple feet below bottom Frequency - 83 not 200 Ping - fastest
Menu/sonar options/color/iceview
Menu/Adjust: Sensitivity - 100 Colorline - 82/84 - lure is just starting to turn blue
Make sure the following settings:
Menu/AUTO DEPTH RANGE - off Menu/Menu/System/Advanced Mode - yes

I may not know what I'm talking about here but, I don't think you can use the dsi option when ice fishing. Dsi requires movement. I hope that model has an option to turn off. I personally like the ice setting mode. It shows battery strength which for some reason I like to know. I have the 4x and love it. Have fun out there.

Not sure about that. You can choose between broadband and downscan that i know. It also has dual imaging. Split screen flasher and sonar. Or sonar and downscan.

Tried these settings last night while playing around with it. They are perfect! I turned the sensitivity down only because I prefer a whiter background on the sonar. The downscan looks absolutely amazing and the sonar is super easy to read. Thanks again!

Glad it worked for you;-)
And yes, sensitivity might have to be turned down a bit. I guess the point is, starting with 100% (highest) sensitivity, but if it causes too much noise, etc, then turn it down a bit until you get what you want.

Thx for posting that, X man! I found it quite helpful. Do you think that 200 hz will not work because of the smaller cone angle?
I am puzzled by this:"ice fishing - no (THAT'S CORRECT. We are talking about setting for ice fishing, but we must set this "ice fishing" mode to NO!!!!)". Any explanation? What does the ice fishing mode do?

Knuguy, i use 200 mostly and it works just fine and mark fish without issues. Do i miss out on some of fish sitting outside of this cone? Probably. But my bait is there anyway and if they decide to chase i'll mark them eventually.

There may be other reasons, but biggest one for me is that as soon as you say yes to oce mode you are stuck with the giant battery logo taking up precious screen real estate. I don't need that, so goodbye ice fishing mode!
