Water was up from the rains at the big head. Depending where you go the water is flowing pretty fast. The cold weather will also be helping. Thornbury had the dam issue but at this time it hasn't stopped anyone. Shoulder to shoulder under the dam on week days, probably worse one weekends. Meaford can get busy but not as busy as Thornbury.

Send me a PM and i'll send you my cell. If I don't get out bow hunting Sunday, I will come and fish meaford with you.

Scott

B ear in mind that the Bighead changes very rapidly. One day can make a huge diff. There are on-line flow rates on the Cdn Wateroffice site.

If anyone sees someone fly fishing with a blue reel or some guy attempting to drift fish with a spinning rod and doing a terrible job, come by and say hi. That will be me. Brown Burton back pack and more than likely be in meaford

Are you using streamers or nymphs with the fly rod ? With the current crowds you should find some room on these rivers for a short nymph drift in some pockets. With streamers you may be limited for space.

I've been tossing nymphs and fake eggs. I have to learn to feel/ see the strikes because i'm not getting anything. I'm finding strike indicators aren't helping a whole lot either. Lots to learn!

Yes it definitely takes some practice as you mention. I never had much luck with indicators using nymphs, but just keep a close eye on the end of my line eliminating as much slack line as possible. Streamers on the other hand ....... no mistaking that take.

If anyone wants to help out, I am now going on 3-4 weeks with only one fish on that broke off... any tips or tricks would be lovely. I've heard it all from trying flatfish (currently on the gf rod) and different lengths of lead and split shot patterns. Just can't seem to find the sweet zone these days.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Scott

Have you tried roe bags or beads? I know you are fly fishing but i am not sure how to match the hatch this time of year when I know they like roe. I used to put a spinning reel on my fly rod when I was younger and join the guys pinning. Worked out pretty good for me. Good luck!

I've been using roe and beads and trying both on the spinning. I've put the fly rod off to the side for the time being

If your adamant on using your fly rod try using a Pink Berkeley worm.

I catch all my trout in the Bighead this time of year floating the pink worm under my float
