With the decent cold start to the season, I’m just wondering if anyone’s ever tried ice fishing anywhere out in the big part of the bay for lakers or salmon. I do quite a bit of fishing in the Big Sound in winter ( except last year when it hardly even froze), and do a lot of downrigging there and further out from Red rock south to 12 mile bay in the summer. I realize we’d need an exceptional ice making year to safely get out there, but I know of a bunch of spots where I’m sure I could hammer big lakers every drop, in the summer I’ve had days where I could hardly keep up with the downrigger for numbers of fish. Just wondering if anyone’s ever braved the chance to fish for untapped “outside” fish.

You might want to ask Les who owns Orourke Electric in Parry Sound. He does some guiding focusing on jigging deep for large lakers in the big sound. He may be sledding out to Red Rock and beyond in years of good ice. You could also ask Mack Rettie who runs the dry cleaning business in P.S. . I've heard he sleds out to red rock occasionally , and is a fisherman.(Not sure if he ice fishes. ) I went to the icefishing expo in Barrie yesterday , might get out fishing today. Buddy in Carling says 6" clear blue from Dillon Dock to Franklin Island.
