Well his original question was about the ice, not the snow. The ice won't suffer, with the possible amount of snow (you know the weather forecasters sensationalism) you might be dragging your sorry butt around.

It would be helpful to give an approx. location on where you plan on heading out as snow and ice depths vary around the lake.

I would be more concerned about driving conditions than ice conditions tho. as stated forecasts change by the hour it would seem

Most of Simcoe had 12” of ice. It won’t disappear with 2 days of mild weather. You’re fine.

Yes it's a very valid question for somebody who lives out of town and doesn't have the confidence or experience ice fishing. I live in Niagara and some years there's no ice here but Simcoe has ice on it and not even the ponds are frozen here so it's nice to hear the ice reports and throw a question about ice and get responses back from somebody who's been out or can see it from the front door😁. It is better to be safe than sorry good question

Seems they have dropped it even more now . With only a cm around the lake .

If you aren't certain, hook up with a hut operator. They are out every day and continue to monitor the conditions.

May be worth spending a few buck to get out and yet stay safe.

There are no dumb questions, especially when it comes to safety.

^ for real. from 10-15cm of snow to almost nothing in the forecast for this weekend.

This warm front and rain today should help melt and pack down the snow on that is on the lake and a the cold snap this weekend should make it better/easier for walkers. (I'm hoping).

Yes I agree. The cold snap Friday night in to Saturday should turn the snow into a nice walkable surface. I am heading out Saturday morning in PB.

I have been out 3 times now and the ice has never been in question. Dec 31st the ice was 9" thick 2 kms out in PB.

Good luck everyone.

Sat. weather forecast high-14C Partly sunny and breezy. Winds NNW22kms. Gusts to 30kms. Seems that a lot of the snow is going to miss the area.

Might need ice cleats on your boots. This rain on the snow will freeze and make it very slippery for walking in my opinion. Especially with the strong winds forecasted. Dress warm if standing out without a hut.

Sunday offers less wind ENE 7 Sunny and cold.

we have a group going out on Sunday with the sleds, ice will not be issue just watch the pressure cracks and avoid any wet spots if you see them, with the cold the bottom of your pull sled can pick up this slush and freeze making pulling extremely hard

I'm booked on Cook's bay with an operator on Sat, but it looks like the storm might be pushing more into Friday.....the ice will be a bit of a mess on the weekend though.

ice will be safe in most spots. watch any entry place for creeks and rivers as they are flowing big time today and tomorrow and can undermine and deteriate ice fairly quickly in these certain areas.

I was out there today other than it being very wet and slushy, the ice seems to be holding up just fine. The cold snap that's coming tmrw should help tighten it back up for the weekend. If your comfortable with the drive up you should be good to go. Give your hut operator a quick call the night before just to confirm. The only thing I can recommend is make sure you have a good pair of waterproof boots in case it's still slushy out there. Tight lines and good luck out there. Report back, let us know how you do out there.

Look at On the Hook's post from today at Bear point Huts. There's not a stitch of snow left on kemp. Time to lace up the Bauer's.lol. Lots of good ice though

Be safe
