Hi all I bought a helix 5 portable, in my confusion I thought it came with an ice transducer. Apparently the entire GTA has gone insane for these units and it's near impossible to find an ice transducer. My question here is a two parter. Question 1) can I still use the transducer the unit came with for ice fishing? Question 2) how do I go about this and what transducer do I need? Planning on using it on my trip to lake nippising next week. T.i.a and as always tight lines

Check with Radioworld in Toronto or Fishing World in Hamilton.

You can use the skimmer transducer attached to a piece of wood or small PVC, however if anyone else in your group is using electronics, you will throw a pile of interference because of the way that transducer sends its Sonar.

I dont know how soon you need it but amazon ships fast. Other than that, look for a small tackle shop. They should carry a bunch.

If you're fishing in shallow water you may prefer to use the transducer that you have now. Ice transducers typically have a narrower cone angle and in shallow water that means you don't have a lot of bottom coverage.

Hummingbirds 9 20 ice transducer have wide 20 degree and narrow 9 degree. So that wont be an issue. I have no problem using it anywhere from 5 to 125

Hummingbird has a transducer exchange program, as long s yours is new stil in packages out can send it back. There should have been a yellow card in your package explaining how do it. It is shipped from GTA so if your close, you may even be able to take it there yourself.
