i am looking to purchase an ice fish finder, i would prefer one with good display qualities, ( i can't get use to the flasher ) or maybe one with a split screen option,

if i was spending in the 300-400 range, could anyone offer some suggestions?

thank you in advance!

Hey I purchased a lowrance 4x ice package last year. It wasnít good but I didnít like setting it up and getting into all the technical stuff constantly. This year mummy gfís family got me an a marcum vx-1 which has been absolutely amazing both times I took it out. So so so simple Iíve only used it under 20 fow so far itís the last generation model but still is awesome. Itís onsale em 299 at Canadian tire in Newmarket.

As far as electronics it really comes down to personal preference. I have had the Marcum showdown troller 2, liked it a lot till it failed on me after 3 seasons. I have used the lowrance elite4x ice machine and found it to be a good unit. I now have the Garmin Striker 4 ice fishing bundle and this will be my second season with it and am quite happy with it. It also has the split screen if you want to use the flasher screen.

I use helix units on the ice and in my boat. I canít say enough good things about them. You just have to play with them because you can really fine tune them to what you want. I also have an ice 55 thatís my extra unit and let my friends use it and itís a workhorse

Check out the Garmin Striker 4. Pretty amazing unit for $200. Just make sure you get the full portable kit.

I agree about personal choice

Comes down to flashers or lcd units or combos.

I don't care for flashers.make me dizzy so prefer sonar units. prefer color with built in gps and ducer for winter and summer so get best bang for the buck

Elite 4 does all that and was in your price range. once you get used to settings its easy.

whatever you choose, do not go cheap and turn off the fish ID

Lowerance 4x is what I have and its awesome. I use it on my boat during the spring/ summer/ fall and then put it in a portable case for the winter. It has maps too which is a big bonus especially when searching for hot spots on new lakes. The side imaging is also very useful during open water. I like the sonar too for the winter, you can literally watch the fish come up and smack the bait. Theres an all season set at CT i believe.
