Does the nav app require a yearly fee or is it a one time purchase?

I honestly don't think anything compares with Navionics. Best app out there.

Yearly subscription - $16.99 / year I think.

However, something I have figured out. If you use your cell phone web browser and type "Navionics Web Chart" you get all the depths and contour maps. You unfortunately can't customize however if you just want to use your mobile data for depths it saves you the fee.

I have the subscription so I can mark my own personal routes, catches, etc.

Navionics is great but just don't believe the 1 ft contour accuracy that's implied, if not specifically claimed.

Navionics for sure. I find on the smaller lakes and some northern lakes itís a bit off on depth but still helps too find structure. Had it for 5 yrs and itís well worth it.

Navionics has worked well for many years both fishing and hunting. Does anyone know if you can update your Navionics chip off the computer, and if so is there a charge for this?

If you are looking for a reference only, you need to purchase Navionics once( one year) and as far as you donít want to have lastest update you can use it for several years without pay.
Different update hs different cost . I paid $9.99 for updated map and data.

Navionics is the way to go , you can drop a way point at the point you access the water from that way if it gets dark or heavily snowing it will get you back to your vehicle safely ... Saved me a bunch of times

Navionics also has a web app you can use on your PC. Basically you can do some homework or take screen shots which can be imported into Word and printed for reference. It's the same as the mobile app functionally. I use it to check out new lakes.
