I am going to take the family out Christmas day for some ice fishing.
I am going to try Mitchell lake because it's nice and close.

I will report on ice conditions later today.
Hopefully I will have some fish porn to post on Christmas day

Cheers and Merry Christmas

Ice is looking good for Christmas.....I had 8 inches close to shore and still had 6 inches near the middle.

Not much snow on the ice at most a couple inches out on the lake and a few more close to shore

The top inch at most was white ice and the rest good black ice.

I was to stress that this report was only in a straight line I walked out from so please don't take this as an assurance that all the ice is good.

I will definitely be checking again on my hike out on Christmas day.

Merry Christmas and have fun!

I walked a good portion of the lake. Its pretty consistent at 4-5" of good ice. No fish though lol. Doubt Ill head back there, most of the lake is really shallow, I spent a lot of time trying to find water deeper than 3 feet.

the whole lake is 3 feet deep, wouldn't be much to ice fish. They drain the lake in the fall. Even before that it is not too much deeper.

I fish it in the summer time only, there are 2 deep holes 12 feet deep, the rest is shallow.

Strange, the deepest part in the summer is 8 ft deep. Fished it for years since it was close, until it became a zoo. Very shallow lake.

Caught lots of pike there.....as for the depth I have caught a high percentage of my biggest fish in shallow water even in the winter.

Ya that was probably me. I walked a big section of the lake drilling holes trying to find water deeper than 2-3 feet.

My son is sick we didn't get to venture out yesterday.......there are only a couple spots with any depth.

Hopefully you find somewhere to go this week with he cold temps ice should be getting good everywhere

Cheers
