A Georgian Bay Township man has been fined $3,700 for fishing out of season.
The man, whose name was not released, pleaded guilty in Penetanguishene court on May 31 and was fined $1,200 for unlawful sport fishing and $2,500 for catching and retaining a fish during the closed season.
In February 11, 2017, a conservation officer was conducting an enforcement patrol on Severn Sound when he encountered 12 fishing lines set through the ice surrounding a fish hut with no one in the area watching the lines. The man had set the fishing lines earlier that day and left the area.

A complete waste of a trophy 50" Muskie to boot. I wonder why they never released his name. Fishing with 12 lines one time, and catching and keeping a big muskie the second time sounds like someone destined to repeat the behaviour in the future. I think the fine could have been a little stiffer.

this guys hut, all his fishing gear and slapped with a $10,000 fine should have been enforced. removing a big fish, also being one of the top predators in the area... there was a guy who kept a 54" muskie (I believe that was the length) out of the French river a few years back, got a $10,000 fine, boat, trailer, fishing gear, truck, everything he had on him was taken. this guy got away... VERY disappointed... $3,700 wont hurt him that bad... taking a trophy muskie out of season (especially being a pre-spawn female) should make him a highly marked man... this guy didn't even get a slap on the wrist... this was more like a scolding... "sir, don't do it again... SIR what did we say last time? don't do it! don't do it sir! please stop... ok next time we will slap you with a wooden spoon..." very disappointed
all fishing fines should be increased... only way people will learn a lesson, and will provide more funding for the MNRF and enforcement authorities... if it were a bass, that's one thing... a muskie? a rareish top predator and a trophy fish... what a piece

They oughta nail his scrotum to a stump and flip him over backwards---that'll learn um.
Knuguy, that made me laugh pretty good! with the massive layoffs at my company (wont say which, but released publicly last week) definitely needed a good laugh at work! thank you sir!
