Had the opportunity to go musky fishing with Dave on Saturday and boy was I happy that we went.

When we got there, we noticed about 30 trucks with trailers and we knew right away there was a tournament on the lake. Thankfully, it was a bass tournament and I knew they would all be off the lake by 3pm for weigh ins.

We launched at around 1030am and began fishing right away at the rock pile which is marked by a water container. We then moved up the lake and continued fishing with no luck. After a while, Dave wanted to go under the bridge to the other side of the lake.

This is where we seen our first action. I had a follow from a high 30 incher but she came in so slow. Then Dave had a miss hit from a mid 30 incher on a subsurface jerkbait.

I then asked Dave if we could do back to the other side because I felt that's where the bigger ones were.

We stopped at one spot and Dave said we should drive up a bit and fish this point. I didn't really want to as my confidence was getting low but Dave said we're going. We did and seen nothing. As soon as Dave turned on the motor to move us again, I yelled " Dave, stop the boat. Stop, Stop , Stop!!!". I had noticed something chasing bait in the water and casted right to it. After two cranks off the reel, WHAM!!!

I had her hooked and hooked well. She decided to stay down but I knew she was big but didn't realize how big til I got her close to the boat. She then decided to dive down again but thanks to my excellent netman Dave, we got her netted.

After a few screams and shouting, we calmed down a bit and got her unhooked for some pics and a measurement. We knew she was close to that 50 mark. Unfortunately, she came in at 49.75 inches. Just a quarter inch shy of the magic number.

Most anglers would call her a 50 but I couldn't. I want a true 50+ Muskie without a doubt.

After we released her, it was about 820pm. We thought we would be able to continue fishing but we both were still shaking and overly excited. We basically sat in the boat for another 40 minutes just staring and smiling at each other with joy .

All in all, it was a fabulous experience especially being on a new lake.

Special shout out to Dave who got the net ready in a blink of an eye. This couldn't have happened without you, bro. Thank you so much

Beautiful fish! The precise measuring is admirable too. Next time she'll be over 50" and just waiting for you!
