Absolutely unreal. That is one of the stiffer fines I have seen handed down. I have to think if he went to the trouble of the false bottom he will likely be back to his old ways, fine or no fine, license or no license

Sounds good, but how do we know he will pay the fine or how do we force him to pay the fine?

It's the government if he works on the books they will take it directly after a while or jail . Pretty sure it can also suspend your license if not paid .

Yes. A fine of at least 1.305 million would be a lot more reasonable.

95 walleyes!! Wow, I don't think I have caught that many eyes combined in my life here in southern Ontario. But it was up north where eyes may be like perch and I don't really spend much time targeting them either. I also think it should have been a larger fine and that Michigan and Ontario has a reciprocal agreement to help make sure fines are collected on both sides of the border. I think a life time ban from fishing Ontario waters would have been more appropriate to discourage others from trying the same thing in the future. I wonder if this is considered a criminal offense that is serious enough for border officers to use to deny him and his wife entry into Canada in the future? If so, then the 10 year ban from fishing is moot if he/his wife can't get back into Canada.

10 year ban should get his attention! I was in White Lake park 3 years ago and saw a guy who fished long and hard every day while we were there and kept to himself. I suspected he was over fishing. I wonder if it was the same guy?

Enforcing a fine on a Canadian is one thing!

This guy was from Michigan!

I'm not sure what can be done to force him to pay. The article didn't say anything about him being in court when the case was heard.

10 years will teach ya a good lesson ya filthy bum!

In cases where there is so called cross boarder fishing, I would think it would be fair to expect the infraction to be reported to the persons home state or province. When dealing with environmental and wildlife law breakers, the fish and animals do not have boarders and we are all in this together. To only penalize someone that is known to break the laws in another county is ridiculous. it has to be expected that theyd be just as disrespectful no matter where they fish/hunt.

Perhaps this is done and Im just not aware, but I think its only fair.

What a jerk... I hope this sends a message to other fools! Respect the rules, or you lose the right to play!

Seems unlikely that he'd be a good honest stand up guy and just pay the fine. However, traffic tickets seem to follow you in Canada from the US so hopefully there's a way to enforce and ensure the fine is paid. Someone must have tipped the CO's off.
