Quick question and letís not blow this up.....

If I am not a status card holder. Can I be in anyway or form involved in setting nets with status card holders? I was invited to learn how to set nets. Not like I will ever use that skill... but I am curious and actually like to see one put down and hauled up. I know there are many who hate the topic about nets. But this will happen with out without me. I will not be keeping any fish caught. But I want to experience it. YOLO!

Why are you asking on a forum?

Call your local MNR office covering the area. See what they require or allow.

Any answer you get on here would be opinion.

Either that or you're meaning to stir the pot?

I sent them an email a week ago and never got a response. So I figure Iíll try it here. Not stirring any pots. Just I had a gut feeling that I would not be able to take part in the activity but spectating may be okay. Was hoping someone can confirm my gut feeling. Last thing I want is to be on the news illegally setting nets.

You should go. The more the merrier and make sure you give us a full report with pictures after.

Good luck.

I think you could find yourself in a bad situation if the MNR pulled up on you!

If you've been invited out to go, it's a great opportunity to learn. However, only to watch as you may not take part in the activity of setting, or pulling. Also, be warned, having been involved in setting a few nets in the past, it can be an assault on the nose if you are not prepared for it. Similarly, a non-Indigenous person can help an Indigenous person retrieve an animal they may have harvested as long as you were not part of the hunt.
