Well after a crazy busy spring, this week I finally put some time aside to get the boat out of storage. Got it all ready and headed out Saturday for my first outing of the season.... Weather didnt look all that great, but I couldnt wait any longer.. Its been too long... Arrived at the lake and YUP weather was terrible.. High winds and whitecaps water smashing on to the ramp. With some effort i was able to launch and got setup on a drop off and started fishing for walleye... After a few perch and gills landed, rod loaded up with some weight and first walleye of the season was topside. I kept trying for eyes, but could not entice another bite, very tough conditions on the lake, with a cold front and high winds. Decided to leave the walleye fishing and try to target crappie. Again very tough fishing and it took me about 2 hours, but I finally located the crappie and then it was game on... Landed a bunch of crappie, some nice slabs in the mix.. Love it the way the ultralight bends when a slab hits...While fishing for crappie I had some excitement, was reeling in a nice slab and a big muskie swiped at it as i was lifted it from the water...Had the muskie and crappie on for about 30 seconds, until the ski ripped the crappie off my line and i was left with nothing but a jig. Was a little p##### that the ski stole my slab... i mean he could have taken any countless 6 inch crappie i released, nope... He wanted a slab... lol..

After this, i started chunking muskie lures, but he was gone.. Another day...

Ended the day fishing for walleye again, and hit 3 more eyes, 2 bigger ones over slot and 1 keeper..

Not a bad day for my first outing...

Until next time.

Cheers and Happy fishing..

That looks and sounds like a fun day in my books, but holy smokes man, thatís WAY to late in the season to be just getting the boat out, even with the late spring we had.

Good for you on getting out, and congrats on persevering through the nasty bout of weather we had on Saturday!

Hope the fish fry tasted great!

That's a great first trip out on the boat Jerry, hope the rest of them are equally productive. Bet that musky sure got your blood pumping! Too bad you didn't have any nice 13" crappie crankbaits to entice him back with

Thanks everyone, yes I finally made it out..

I agree it was way way too late, but life always gets in the way of fishing, especially for me... BS etc etc. Anyways...

I am not going to even talk about the muskie.. I am still a little annoyed..
But I give him/her kudos for stealing the right fish.. LOL

Hoping to get out again soon before the crappie disappear..

Glad you finally splashed the boat! At least you'll be ready for bass opener!

Nice multi-species day

We've been having a lot of them this year, it seems almost every trip out we get at least 3 species per person.

Well done, cold fronts are never easy to deal with, especially for walleye in my experience, and a good bag of slabs too, will be some nice eating, good work
