With bass season opening next week I wanted to see what everyone likes to do. For me its a toss up between top water and texas rig.

Without a doubt, the first bass lure to touch the water will and has always been, a topwater

Same on this end first lure is always a top water. Love to watch them come up and smash it.

my friends and I are still pretty green to bass fishing
What are some easy-to-use top water lures good for the upcoming bass opener?
We will do some shopping this weekend.

thanks!

Depends on where you're fishing, but for me the Rapala Skitter Pop is a great little popper that works well on smallmouth. Others include the Chug Bug and the Strike King Splash. You can get these at Bass Pro Shops.

If you're fishing any type of weeds, I'd go with a Spro Hollow Body frog...

As for my favourite lures...

1) Topwaters

2) Jerkbaits

3) Spinnerbaits

Tony et al,

I wrote a post last year regarding a One Combo and Go Box experiment I conducted that will answer a lot of your questions. I've posted the link below.

I fish out of a 23' cuddy cabin, so I can't get into the tough weeds/stumps/rocks, and casting docks is pretty much out too. We're on Sturgeon, and where we can get the boat, can be fairly busy. What works best for us, is drifting small jigs, just off bottom, along weedlines and across offshore humps. I usually try other methods, get out-fished, and go back to slow and subtle.

I really miss it when Scugog was my home lake and I used topwaters.

They don't work very well on Simcoe.

How about a 7wt Flyrod & a frog-coloured Popper in the stump bays at dusk
A slow-rolled black Spinnerbait on a gloomy day.
