Hi Everybody I have never fished the Niagara Bar before and I am thinking about heading down this next friday for my first attempt. I will be fishing from My Kayak (Ocean Trident 13) since the wind isn't supposed to be too crazy (14km to the north). Can somebody tell me if the lake is frozen over at the shoreline and possibly not even accessible? I will be launching near Mississauga Beach. Does anybody with experience forsee any major problems with this? Any advice will be much appreciated.

well , no replies to date so that says something.

personally, I would not even consider hitting the bar in a Yak, but to each his own.

fyi .north winds are one of the worst for fishing at the bar as are ne

Don't now about ice or access as haven't been down for a while

Be safe

The Niagara Bar is nothing to play with especially in a yak (THIS TIME OF YEAR). I've spoken to guys in a motor powered boats that had to motor around ice flow for miles that was coming down the river just to get in.

I (we) would hate to read about another fisherman doing something foolish.

I would reconsider!!

I recall barely making it back in a 20' 90hp boat. Fishing the bar from a kayak in the winter seems like a death wish...

Yup. I have broken skegs and blades down there over the years .
always got back but no fun

The Niagara is an amazing river and can be very moody so you have to be prepared and go in the right units for sure
