We are booked to go up on Thursday and are being told that we might not be able to get out till Friday because there might be too much slush on the ice to get us out. (due to the rain). Now being told the ice has pressure cracks everywhere and there is water on top of the ice. Can anybody verify this?

We too are supposed to be going up tomorrow for a couple of days as well. Waiting to hear back from outfitter to see if it is going to be possible with weather conditions.

Cheers

There is one big pressure crack that has come up in the last couple of days. Nothing out of the normal for the lake as this crack looks like it has come up in its usual spot.

There is lots of great ice out of South Bay with ice thickness exceeding 20 in most spots.

I would suggest checking in with your respective operators for this coming weekend if you are concerned. If there is a major issue that would prevent your trip from happening this weekend, your operators would inform you.

There is lots of ice (21 inches today out from Sunset Point) The issue is there are some big snow drifts and just generally lots of snow on the lake so when we get the +7 and 20mm rain on Thursday its going to be a SLOPPY mess out there until Friday night/Saturday morning when it freezes solid. Then the lake should be a giant skating rink until we get more snow later on on Saturday. ;-)

I've had days canceled due to heavy rain, you get a lake on top of lake and travel really sucks, the big pressure crack gets iffy and dangerous. I understand if some operators cancel out the day when these conditions happen, however the fishing can be HOT if you can make it out. Bring cleats with you, after the rain you will need them to get around.

Is there any good spots to access the lake with a pickup towing an ice hut trailer??
