Had a nice surprise this morning. While out on Cook's Bay fishing for perch for dinner, the drag on my rod suddenly really started to scream. I was using an ultralight rod, and a large perch will do this too, but only to a point and I get them under control pretty quick. This was different. Thinking I had a bass on, after a delicate fight of several minutes, I got a glimpse of my first pike of the season, but he wasn't ready yet. A few more runs over several tense minutes -remember I was perch fishing, 4 pound test line vs. a lot of sharp teeth - and he was in my net. Not a giant by any means, but a great eater size and lots of fun on the UL. My little 2" plastic bait was nowhere to be found and he bent the hook on my jig, but who cares. Only wound up with one keeper perch, but this guy should be enough to complete tonight's main course. Let's see how I do at filleting one of these bony critters.

I did the same recently. I bought a new 86 micro light and wham a nice Pike on a 2 yellow jig. Fortunately for me it was just in the tip of the snout and the jig head was exposed.

30 6.6 lbs.
