Hi all, happy ice season. I love to ice fish but have limited luck. I would like some opinions on what kind of flasher to buy. I fish very shallow to really deep. Hope to get out near Huntsville this weekend.

Thanks

It's a Chevy Ford debate on which flasher to buy. All I can say is, once you use one you won't wanna ice fish without it.

had the elite 4x (no chirp) ice machine the last 4 seasons and it is a workhorse, caught my personal best laker thanks to that unit without a doubt, just sold it as I switched to humminbird. there is a flasher screen available on that 4x tho, (also split graph/flasher) I never used it, more of a graph user personally.

I went with the Humminbird Helix 5 Portable unit and I got the Ice transducer on a sale.
I was also able to get the unit from the Amazon warehouse at a great price last year.
I love the unit as I use it on the ice, I bring it canoeing with me and I use it in my 12ft tinner (a friend gave me a tite-lock transducer bracket).
The ONLY thing I wish it had was GPS, strictly to be able to more easily monitor my trolling speed.

Don't limit yourself to "flashers" if you think you could use a unit in a boat as well.

Good luck on the ice this year!

Look into garmin fishfinders I own one and I think they are best bang for the buck. They have gps, chirp, flasher and traditional fishfinder....

I have one but don't use the flasher mode. Why not use a graph?

I have only ever used a Humminbird, but this video gives some good points on brightness and battery length if you don't have a hut to block the sun always.

I have the lowrance 4x ice machine and it's served me well but over 70ft I find has trouble showing your lure especially if there's another sonar around. Just got a steal of a deal on this hook 5 which has chirp. Hoping the chirp helps. Just ordered an ice transducer for it.

I have the Lowrance 4x ice machine as well an it has never let me down. I just had to replace the battery but it has been used to catch a lot of fish. I prefer graphs as that's what I was brought up on.
