I have heard it is not good in. Winter. As soon as sun is down the action dies. This is what I heard though but will try it myself in the next few days

best bite is from 330-6pm IMO wouldn't bother during the day unless your going for pike or panfish

Been on ice twice so far, including yesterday afternoon+evenining. My exerince (taking weather out of equation), day bite was a lot better. Marked many fish from sub up till 2 (left after) , iced 5, lost a couple and my buddy and I caught 3 around noon mark. On the other hand, yesterday, marked onyl 5 fish from 3-8 pm, iced 3 of them one at around 7:15, the other two just before it gets dark.

It might have been the cold snap affecting the difference, but if time was the only factor, day time was better for me.

Potters is often the first place to freeze thats why it is mentioned a lot. It has been fished for teo weeks so I say not as good anymore. May areas are safe now so If you know an area better give it a try. I personally think the fishing on the whole bay can be good if you stay a bit away from crowds, know how to call in fish, time is right and weather copperates
