Bay of Quinte - Walleye action

I put together a short video of some of the eyes caught. Hope you enjoy

2018 marks my 11th year making an annual pilgrimage to the BOQ. The first few years were really slow for me. I would watch other people work a walleye to perfection, but when I tried they would just give me the cold shoulder...for two year. I remember how excited I was to finally catch my first Quinte walleye and I think every member of this crew feels the same. If it wasn't for that joy and excitement I don't think we would have taken 4 days off during one of the coldest weeks we have had to chase these things.

There is something about chasing walleye through the ice, they don't fight as hard as a laketrout and can be pickier then a whitefish at times, but watching them on a fish finder and working a fish until it finally hits is what keeps us coming back.

I started the trip by myself on Thursday morning and decided to fish the Belleville area. There doesn't seem to be as many big fish in this area but they numbers are usually there. It was also a day before the cold snap would really hit. That morning I had the best walleye fishing of my life. Between 7:30 and 12:00 it was non stop action with the biggest fish weighing in at 6.5 lbs.

A gold sidewinder took almost every fish.

After the morning flurry the rest of the crew showed up for the evening bite. We didn't end up with anything huge but everyone caught a bunch of fish and we were all able to keep a few for the table.

The next three days were a bit of a different story. We decided to fish the Hay Bay/Huffs area looking for some bigger fish. This area is more of a set up and stay put kind of place and with the cold temps coming, that was exactly what we were looking for. Day 2-3 & 4 got slower and slower as the temps sunk in. That being said, were were fortunate enough to land a few more fish before we had to head home.

Considering the weather conditions and not wanting to move around much we were pretty happy with the results. Everyone took home some fish and we all had another great trip. Enjoy a few more fish pictures!

Again, gold sidewinders took most fish with a few coming on jigging raps.

Heading up this Friday. How deep were you fishing. It's been 5 years since last visit there.
Good stuff.

It depends on where you are going. Belleville area we were in a bit shallower 17-19 feet of water. We were much deeper in the Hay bay/ Huffs area 28-30 feet of water.

Good luck
