Hey guys. Last year when I put my auger away it ran fine. I added fuel stabilizer to the gas but when I went to start it up today I wasnít able to get it going. The spark plugs are still good I checked those but I was wondering if you guys know anybody who would be able to take a look at it.

Had that problem last year what had happened to my strikemaster was the oil in the gas had separated from the gas which led to the oil sinking to the bottom of the tank which clogged the fuel line. Crown small engine fixed it for around $120

I have a Rapala Vortex as well and I always thought it was finicky. A small engine guy I know told me "If it has a Torch brand spark plug, even if it looks good, change it for a champion or ngk". I did, it started first pull every time since.

Yup, Torch brand plugs are garbage.

Leave the choke off while priming. look down the carburetor throat to verify gas is entering while priming, be carefull not to break the choke lever when removing air filter housing. Fresh gas never hurts either.

Swap the plug, add fresh gas an oil. Yes when priming make sure the choke is off. These are the same engines that are used on Eskimos as well.

I only use premium gas for all the amount you use during the season.

With all the ethanol in the fuel these days never leave any fuel in it,
lines included when not in use for extended periods.

Just a tip that Im passing along from the guys at Quinn's marina

Chances are your carb is gummed up and needs cleaning, but you can try running a sea foam through it. With the small amount of fuel I run through mine every season i just buy the premixed quarts. No ethanol and it has a shelf life of 14months from the time itís opened. At $7 a quart itís peanuts in insurance that it will keep the auger running tip top. Not sure if they use a synthetic blend oil in the premix but I also find that it smokes a lot less than when I mixed the oil/fuel

I use Trufuel from Canadian Tire. Two year shelf life once opened. A can lasts a long time, for me at least.
