Might be some conflicting information between the two articles, regarding possible fines? Maybe I'm not interpreting correctly.
But interesting to read none the less.
Most hut owners abide by the regulations, however, there's always that odd one each spring.
Every handful of winters or so you'll see an unidentified hut abandoned out in much deeper water, they are truly more problematic...because as they break up or sink...the debris can pose possible navigational problems for boaters early in the season.

Unlike the first hut which has value the second is just a beat up old tin shed.
The first probably had good intentions but should have at least taken the last 50 ft onto the shore to avoid a MAJOR fine which is why he most likely did not come back after the Due date.

Good post Grumpa.

It makes me wonder why the CO's or cops didn't nail these guys during fishing season for using unregistered huts.

The old garden shed gave me a good chuckle.

I had a look inside that old converted garden shed today. The floor and runners are completely rotted out so the owner likely towed it to the landing and then removed the registration number.
The MNR documented the location and numbers for all the ice huts this year but because it has been moved from it's original location it might to hard for them to pin that shack to it's rightful owner.
Surprisingly there is another shack that is sitting at that landing and it has a registration number on it, but the number prefix begins with "PB" rather than the usual "NB", no idea where that came from.
