First off, Iíd suggest planning and getting the booking down, whoever you go with by the end of this month. For us, it was important to try and pick a date as close to a time we thought would work for our gang and have safe ice. If Northern Ontario is a benchmark for this years ice season - looks like weíre a few weeks ahead of time from last year. Iíve seen photos of guys on first ice wayyyy up north already and several inches in North Wisconsin. Can you tell Iím itching to go out??! Lol

Several years ago we chose Anglers Haven and were so impressed by their hospitality that we stayed with them again Jan 2017. Just all around from first getting there to leaving. They made us feel like we were on an all inclusive vacation. It immediately puts the whole gang in a super charged, pumped up exciting weekend. We ran out of beer the 3rd day and Marc And Shelley scooted to the beer store and grabbed us beer. Above and beyond, one should be well prepared before hand. A good tip on delivery was in order - anyone with some experience in the service industry would do the same.

The important stuff - The fishing was fantastic. The grounds they have us on is top notch. It was constant action all day for us. And if we wanted to Move - Day huts also available. We all took turns making one guy use a spoon or lure when we didnít get any action (rare) to try and bring fish in. Most of us just wanted to chill, drink, eat have set lines and not think about the stresses of family and life. Lots of laughing and buddy managed to clear out the hut with some magic gas we know he was incubating for the trip!! Lol

Both times we went, I managed to hook into 30inch fish which you can imagine, lit up the place.

If your into fish porn, my favourite! I have tiny clip of the monster fish below.

Iím not affiliated with anglers haven - but good business deserves good referrals from good customers.

It's crazy how far customer service goes when it comes to booking trips. We will be back there again at the beginning of February for the annual men's trip!

As far as fishing goes, none of the ops can guarantee good fishing. But they can guarantee great service, and that's all you can ask for. ldub

For sure. I went to anglers Haven 3 years in a row. Service was great but the last time fishing was terrible. Not outfitters fault. Past 2 years tried other places but hoping with the change of regulations fish are coming back

No doubt. Think about it , you go up for one weekend out of the year. So you bank on that weekend for the stars to align and fish gods smile on you. Tough fishing can happen anytime of the year, but in the winter with an operator you are more or less stuck in one location. My best advice, be ready for prime time early morning, and evening. Keep your lines freshly baited in between. Most of all be prepared with your favorite beverages and or (other) forms of entertainment when the fish scatter. ;dub

I'm booked into Anglers Haven for Jan 5. I haven't booked with them before so it's great to see all the good reviews. Now I just have to hope for good iced by then.

Just curious, how many of you guys drive out to your bungalow versus taking the ride from the outfitter?

I get a lift out the bungalow from the outfitter.

I'd rather drive out so I can bring more stuff but most likely will catch the ride. Dont want to risk my truck that early in the season.

Prefer to drive out as many do, but that depends on ice condtions and what the outfitter suggests.

If we have to get taken out so be it... Np.

I would always ask the operator to take me out on the lake. After all it is one of the services included in the price.

Also, you cant blame the op. for wanting to take his clients out. Because if someone makes some bad decisions and goes down, it's the operator that gets the bad name.

Operator will let you know. I'd say I probably drive out about 50% of the time. You'll want to be prepared to load up with the operator if necessary. You can bring lots of stuff, just pack it well.
