Went up to Sauble Beach with the family for the week, and of course had to get some lines wet. Tried some for some cats on the Saugeen River in Southampton but no bells were ringing. Not sure if maybe they've moved on now or if it just wasn't happening that day.

Decided to take the kayak out (fishing in the yak for the first time) to Chesley Lake to search for some Gators. This is the 3rd season I've headed out to the lake, and still searching for my first bite. Water temps seemed pretty warm for early June, and the weeds are already getting thick. Fished a variety of depths from ~5-20 FOW.

Started out throwing spinners (blue fox #4/#6) and some Ugli Boyz safety pin style, but weeds were wrapping them up faster than spaghetti on a fork... switched to some jerk baits and got a nice hit on a perch coloured Rapala.

Just a small gal, but she sure was pretty and put up a good fight. Searched around for mama, but it wasnt meant to be.

Glad I finally got one on Chesley

Cheers

Chesley is a tough one. More misses than hits on that lake. Definitely some better lakes in the same area for pike and other species.

Nice fish though! Looked like a beauty day
