Many would probably say hut operator. Simcoe has good operators at Virginia Beach, Port Bolster and Beaverton just north of you or You could try Lake Scugog at Port Perry. All you need is an auger, some minnows hooks or jigs and some warm clothes.

Rods are fairly cheap. Can Tire sells combo deals for about $20+. Also there are lots of youtube videos about all aspects of ice fishing. If you know someone with equipment ask to go along that may save you some initial money if you decide it's not for you. Good luck. Ice fishing is a great way to enjoy the cold weather.

Definitely go with an operator. Tim Hale's in Beaverton is one of the best IMO.... Let us know how you make out what ever you decide..
Cheers FM.../ Dave

Ya check the lake Simcoe form for hut operators. Casey’s out of Port Bolster is popular.

Saturday was the Halliburton poker run. Not sure when you were there but this would contribute to traffic in that area

I started my ice fishing with an operator “Casey’s”
After that I started going out on my own at Scugog twice.

I might go out tomorrow afternoon to scugog and I’m also booked with Caseys hut this coming Friday.

Did not hear to much about Casey's this year but every time we went out with him it's always been great. Never had a bad day with Casey's. Tight lines and good luck.
