Tried the same spot yesterday. They were active, but no real slabs. Caught about 30, kept a dozen. A little surprise was to catch a bluegill and 3 rock bass, one was about twice the size of those seen on the photo.

Has someone ever seen a mole on the ice? It showed up near my holes yesterday, 300-400m from the shore, so I took him back to the shore... weird...

Nice catch.

Why were you surprised to catch the rock bass and bluegill?

Wonder if the mole was taking advantage of all the minnows that people leave behind around their holes. Is a nice free meal!

I do not fish often and bluegill and rock bass are very rare through the ice to me.

As for the mole, yes, if it likes fish then the hard water season is probably only time :)

Gotcha.

Almost anytime I fish scugog for crappie I usually get way more bluegills than crappie. Apparently I need to fish where you do instead

Usually that's a great sign if you can catch the bluegill during the day chances are the crappy will be there too. Nice catch!
