First timer entering the Perchfest this year. I am a avid winter ice angler on Simcoe but have never been on cooch or throught the narrows.

Anyone else entered? Huge differences between winter and spring perch fishing? I'll be outfitted with live bait, tungsten jigs, slab grabbers, spoons...

I'm outfitted with an ultra lite 5'6 Diawa Presso and a Shimano Stradic ci4+. I've also read some prefer the length of a longer lighter almost crappie rod to produce longer casts and less spookier activity to not scare off fish. Should I grab a 7ft or 7'6 light?

Thoughts?

Thanks guys

Hey Blake,

Will you be fishing from a boat or from shore? I fish from shore for the most part. Last year i bought a 8' ultra lite crappie rod and I couldn't be happier with it. The only problem was i had to order it from the states.

The extra length has nothing to do with being stealthy or longer casts. What it does allow you to do is not have to sit right on the waters edge to flip a fish up to yourself after you have caught one. It makes fighting and landing fish a lot easier.

I hope this helped.

They are Perch and you can catch them with anything. User preference is the only real reason to use anything other than what you already have.

Check out the Berkley Lightning rods. Great perch rods for under 50 bucks.
