Hi All

new to this forum...exited to join and contribute!

Im on an island in between fish bay and hunters bay in the south end of Nipissing. Just wondering if any locals have been out in the area in the past couple days and how the ice is in the area of the lake. Hoping to open up cottage May 5th if mother nature cooperates.

Any update would be greatly appreciated as im about 3.5 hours away

thanks!!

Welcome to the board. While I do not know about Fish Bay I am further up South Bay close to Beacon Island and as of last weekend the ice has not started to melt at all. There was still snow on top of the ice and there wasn't even any melting around the edges. As of Saturday which was the last day I was there snow machines where still out and about on the ice.
There has been some milder weather so things should start to thaw but it is way behind the previous 5 or 6 years that I have been there.
Another board member posted close to a couple weeks ago that there was the same amount of ice where he had his ice hut then as there was when ice fishing closed.
The latest satellite picture doesn't show much in the way of open water at the infows either. See link.
I did see an Osprey fly over on the weekend though which means there is some open water around somewhere.

Welcome aboard RandyLahey, sorry I can't help you with your question as like you I am 3.5hrs away from Nipissing and only fish up that way in the winter.

Just wanted to welcome you to the board and say it is nice to see you have changed your interests to fishing and hopefully you have gotten away from working outside the beer store in your green elf pants

Made it over to the island by airboat.
Ice is quite soft in Fish Bay with a couple patches of open water.
Hunters Bay is still solid with some snow drifts on top.
Once Fish Bay opens its usually a week or so later before Hunters Bay opens up.

What island are you on Randy?
When I came back to mainland on Tuesday afternoon Fish Bay was 80% open.
Hunters Bay still solid. Probably a good thing you put it off a week.
Water is still low but is rising.

I marked it with an X on the picture. Little island called Suitsus. Been in the family since the late 40s. where is your spot in hunters bay?

Im going to head up saturday the 12th to open it up. Been tracking the satellite images that someone else posted in here and hopefully we get a clear shot in the next few days. Been very cloudy

Here is the link again if you didnt see it on the other post
