Brought a newbie Salmon Fisherman out to try for (semi)staging salmon after not being out since the derby ended. Weather was better than the forecast so it made for a nice morning.

4 rod spread , number zero dipsy with a moonshine spoon , 2 colour leadcore with pink flatfish 125 behind boat. Riggers down 10 with blue flatfish and rigger down 15 with clown ladderback lyman's.

A few fish breaking the surface , marked a few before rods started in at 25 fow. We left launch about 0635 hrs , fishing by 0650 hrs.

First fish in about 35 fow on pink flatfish , nice fight for my newbie fisherman on the mooching reel which I used for first time this year. Handled it well after a few tips to avoid knucklebusting and how to reel in after pulling up on rod. Still waiting on these pictures from the boat but he sent a few others.

Second fish on blue flatfish off the rigger , 21 pounds , let him fight another and he told me he preferred the mooching reel.

Third fish I brought in , only 13 pounds or so , on the clown lymans.

Dipsy triggered from a missed hit and then pink flatfish got hit almost right after. Myron brought in fish very quickly on the mooching reel thinking it was the dipsy on the surface and not gaining on it. Before I figured this out and had the net ready the fish was at the boat and broke him off. Looked like a decent coho to me as still very silver.

Last action before 10 am big fish on a newly placed clown Jplug that replaced the pink flatfish. Was thinking of slowing the motor when the blue flatfish got hit and we had my boat's first double for salmon. Luckily had removed dipsy from the spread and only had 3 lines going but sure enough the big fish did get tangled in third line before getting smaller fish to the boat.

It was about an 11 pound coho , first one of the year for me in the east end ( lots last couple of years ) and then we got the almost 25 pound chinook to the boat and that was a perfect time to call it a day.

Myron had a great time, glad we got one let alone 5 . Some pics here , still waiting for a lot more. Thanks for reading.
