Congratulations LNSA on another successful stocking in 2017!
Walleye egg collection and fertilization started April 20th with the help of the LNSA and volunteers, under the watchful guidance of the MNRF, and culminated with the recent release of 1.6 million walleye fry into the lake.
The stocking program had a 80% success rate this year from the 2 million eggs that are permitted to be collected.
Well done LNSA!
I'm sure I can speak for all the anglers, area businesses and stakeholders that benefit from or cater to the sports fishing industry around the lake....your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated....we applaud all your volunteer efforts over the past 30 plus years.
If the clouds of walleye fry I'm seeing around my own dock this spring is any indication....perhaps the natural spawn was very successful as well.
2017 could end up being another banner year in the current 10 year walleye repopulation effort. Future index netting surveys by the MNRF will eventual tell if this year's recruitment was indeed better than normal.

It's a great start. It's now up to the rest of us to be smart about how we harvest- commercially or not - to save the walleye population for future generations. Highly encouraged to hear about the natural fry around the docks. With a little common sense and self control we may just save this lake after all....
