As some may know my friend is employed by the MNRF and is in the stocking portion of his job. Today he stocked a local lake with 4200 rainbows. I went along to take a few pics for you to see, Some on here has not seen how they do it. So this pic is the truck they use. The tank is divided into two sections.

These are the hoses they use. They empty one section at a time

these are pics of the fish entering the lake. They must first ensure that the water temp is good. Today the lake temp was 16 deg C. The tank temp was 12. As long as the temp is within 5 degrees all is good to go.

So now the lake is restocked. This is a pic of the lake. I will be back next week to go after the fish from years gone by. There have been 8 lb. fish caught. The strain of bows stocked this year is from the Ganny. They are trying to have this strain reproduce naturally

I put 300 in my pond a few years ago. They grew to about 2 pounds then I think they died off. Never got my money's worth. The pond is aerated with a windmill even in the winter. Not sure where they went?? I used to stand on my little dock, tap a walking stick a few times then throw some special feed out and they'd attack like piranhas. It's like I was feeding the dogs...

Nice pictures, Thx

awesome report!

I my dad told me a story that happened in the 1990s (could be 80s, I believe an area of the French river) where the MNR were stocking largemouth bass. they picked a spot and released the young bass early spring, high numbers, believed to be around 10-12k. that spring he went up on pike opener and was catching pike that were between 26-28" and nearly as fat as they were long. he kept a few for dinner with his buddies and opened their bellies to see what they were feeding on. these pike fattened up on the stocked largemouth bass. the MNR released these young bass in pike spawning beds just after the spawn as they spawned out pike were putting on the feed bag. lucky pike!

I can only report that there are no cormorants on this lake. But big rainbows will feed on them . So I told the wife I need to protect them and have to go fishing there.
