It maybe better to cut off the crankbait scientifically speaking but financially speaking most anglers couldn't afford the loss of to many 5 to 15 dollar cranks.jmho

That's pretty impressive that pike can rid themselves of a deep settled barbed hook that quickly. When I loose a pike with my lure I retye a new lure on and start casting...several times I have rehooked the same fish and got my lure back.

It would be good if they could repeat that study using other fish species to see if that applies to other fish as well.

Very cool article, thanks for sharing.

I personally have never caught a fish with another lure on/in it....so they must have a secret underwater hospital they go to for removal.....lol.

Caught a lot of pike with plastic baits in their stomach - I always make it a point to look at the stomach of the fish I catch if I am going to eat the fish - you get an idea of what they are feeding on - one thing I always remember is the dead trout I saw laying along the shore - the trout was about 18 inches long and it had another trout that was about 10 inches long stuck in its mouth head first - it must have eaten the smaller trout but it was too big and chocked on it -
