Well due to weather and the fact I wanted one, I made an ice ducer from a lowrance X50 DS. For those that are still thinking about making one here is how I did it. In the photo's you will see the box, the extensions, the ducer storage corner cut from foam and the two extensions that I use. The fishfinder is mounted on the lid, on a wedge of wood to set it at an angle that I find comfortable. The battery is mounted on one side. I can read from 4" to 36" depth of ice just by adding an extension if needed. The arm keeps the ducer still and level at all times just under the ice. The only thing I have to do is open the lid, attach the battery terminals and and the transducer too the extension I want and I'm ready to fish. Total set up time less than three minutes. The arm extensions are made from a alum swiffer telescoping handle. The ducer is one for an elec trolling motor as it was the best deal at Radio World at the time. It is connected to the first extension with JP Weld. The box is that size so I can throw in a couple of hand heaters if I need to and it has rubber feet under neath to keep it of the ice.

Nice set-up. I'm also thinking of a way to prevent my battery from crashing into my fish finder during transport.

I just made a frame with 1" x 1 1/4" the the length and width of the battery and left about 1/2" of free play at the end to be able to get the battery out if I need too. I insert a wedge of dense foam at the box end, this with the foam at the other end for the ducer holds it snug. The foam is packing from our TV box.
Good Fishing

Great job Tailfin. I love to see people creating useful stuff from scratch using what they've got available.

nice job!

I really like the fact that the transcuder is perfectly level.

Very important when fishing deep waters....often with my unit, it is off just a tad, so takes some playing around until I see what I want to.

Job well done Tailfin .......I like the extendable transduser
option. The wood looks so nice you can leave it on your fireplace mantle when not in use.........as long as the better half isn't at home.
Cheers Chris

When you say Ice Ducer, I was thinking a portable shitter was in the works. MIght need one once you start slaying the fish using this device.

Tried it out in the harbour works perfect.

I will post pictures of the harbour and new tip-ups as soon as I can fix my camera.
