Hello I am brand new to this forum and can't get enough of it !! Love reading what everyone has to say. Maybe I can get some help with a few questions of my own.

I am a college student in Lindsay and I am new to the Kawartha Lakes, (grew up fishing Simcoe). I am a die hard fisherman and I'm always looking for the next bite.

I am extremely curious about where all these crappie are. I have done my fair share of ice fishing this season, but I have yet to hook onto a crappie. Can anyone give me some pointers of where I can fish Scugog to finally catch one ? I am keeping my hopes up to catch one before the ice is out.

Looking forward to making lots of posts on this forum!

Welcome jcbucks28,

Visit Causeways Bait & Tackle and ask them for some pointers,
where the fish are biting etc.

Also, drill some holes and find 7-9 fow with green weeds nearby, setup and fish, the crappie are there.

I would say if you have not caught a crappie on scugog than you are fishing at the wrong time of day. The same places you get perch in the day time will hold crappie in the late evening and night. I have got loads of crappie this season but only a couple before dark. Also they are often suspended so fish high. Electronics really help.

Thanks for all the advice. Hopefully I will have some luck my next time out. Any preference on bait? I have been using small panfish jigs with wax worms, coloured plastics and even minnows. Should I be using something different?

Hey jbucks. Welcome to the forum. I am also a new member. I live on the east side of scugog and so far haven't had much luck with the crappies this winter. I'm going to go out now for a couple hours. I haven't been out for a week or so but last time out for crappies I couldn't find weeds! That's right I couldn't find weeds! On scugog!! I'm using a hand auger though which limits the number of holes I care to drill. Ill post my results later on, hopefully with some suggestions for ya.

Matt

Took a drive yesterday afternoon to View Lake on the south east side. The lake was deserted but I was there mid-afternoon and the wind was blowing. I could see where some huts had been taken off and markers left-or maybe the bottom of the huts. The ice at the launch was beaten up but still tight to shore.

Thought I'd try out from the boat launch there towards the opposite side. Looks like a there is a bay accross on the north side and in theory where crappie and panfish might move in spring. Of course its only a guess for me as 99% of the time I fish Simcoe for perch.

Anyone fish that end of the lake care to give a few pointers on location? Is it worth going back west to the Birch Island area? Thanks.
