Fish still eat during high pressure, low pressure, no pressure. It does try your patience but fishing slow works. The slower you fish increases your chances when the fish are not as active. The Kawartha Lakes are generally shallow compared to where walleye hide in deeper lakes. Any advice I may pass on works from 2FOW to 15FOW where walleye and crappie etc. are living from spring until fall. Water level on Stoney is lower than it should be right now. Like I posted the other day, minnows, small baits with a very slow retrieve. The fish will be down the side of the drop offs. If you can find some old or new weed, the fish will just be hanging out in it relaxing. The fish will be definitely be sitting very still, in about 10 FOW. You will have to entice the lazy fish today. But tonight the fishing will be great when the wind changes from west to south and then to east with some rain drops later maybe. This evening, tonight, Monday and Tuesday the fishing will be great in the Kawarthas. Check the weather... Maybe some thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday. Stay safe... Good luck.

Been catching the fish on stoney in deep water 46-52ft with a jig and minnow. Bite is slow but patience goes a long way., sometimes bite window lasts 60-90 minutes. Don't do weekends.

Wow that's deep, no wonder I was struggling. Barometric pressure went up quick....caught a few bass by accident which I was trying to avoid as they approach spawn so I called it quits early.

I was on another lake but faced the same situation. What I did is using suspended jerk bait. Before I locate the fish I won't pull out the jig. Unlike the regular jerk bait presentation, sweeping the bait is an option. Cast the jerk bait out, and crank several times to let the bait goes to the maximum depth. DO NOT TWICH IT BUT PULL IT FOR THREE OR FOUR FEET. PAULSE FOR COUPLE OF SECONDS. REPEAT THE PROCESS. You could add some small twitches for your presentation. Unfortunately I only caught one fish over the slot size. More than eight OOS bass were caught. May be I did not find the school of the fish but the way to catch fish works. Hopefully it may help you for next fishing trip.

Brutal conditions yesterday for walleye...
That is not why you were struggling. Shallow fishing from 2FOW to 15 FOW is totally different from fishing deep water for walleye. The reason you were struggling is in your post itself. You caught a few bass, so you called it quits early. Catching other species of fish is inevitable when you are fishing. If you called it quits early, you missed the fish. If you really want to catch walleye in various weather conditions, you have to put in the time. There is many times of the day that walleye feed. No such thing as brutal fishing conditions...we must adapt to the conditions, if we want to catch the fish. What time of the day do you like to fish? How many hours are you planning on fishing uninterrupted? Where and what depth do you want to fish? I can give you specific answers to specific questions on Kawartha walleye. As for deep water fishing for any Kawartha species I cannot. Deep water fishing causes Barotrauma and Barotrauma kills fish. Walleye is a very fragile fish species to begin with, depth and water temperature are just two examples. To fish for walleye deeper than 25, 30 40, 50, 60, 80 100 feet if you are not keeping the walleye, is definitely going to kill that walleye when it is released. There is slot sizes in the Kawartha lakes for walleye. My question is...How do you release a walleye that you are not allowed to keep legally, when it is suffering from Barotauma? So legally you do have to release it, and then it dies, makes no sense, does it. Better to fish deep water like Lake Erie for walleye...that way you keep, clean, cook and eat what you catch. Slot sizes are there to help the conservation of the walleye. If we kill walleye intentionally by fishing to deep, that is not responsible or conserving the species.
