Northern Lodge Recommendations

Looking to plan my 50th (edit, 50th birthday, not 50th trip - wouldn't that be grand!!) trip up north and seeking recommendations for walleye camps/lodges within 5-8hr drive from Simcoe area.

We did a fly-in with Big Moose camp outside Cochrane last year - amazing. I hear they've sold.

Our top contender for the upcoming trip is Ellen Island on Lady Evelyn. Risk is they're super popular and give preference to returning customers, so we have to wait to see if any slots are open... and who knows what time of year we may get or if they will be able to accommodate our group of 8 with what is remaining after repeat bookings are confirmed.

So, looking for insurance options. Ideally boat in, to save cost, and self-supported with food (no "American" plans).

There's a fair number of options out there and researching them is a rather large time suck and you never really know what you're gonna get so I reach out to this community for trusted recommendations. Nothing fancy, comfortable, great fishing, ideally boats provided.

I would personally reconsider Lady Evelyn. I've been there, done it, and while everyone has different expectations, it wouldn't be on my list for a return trip.

The fishing camp that really stands out for me is Northern Walleye Lodge:

Great prices, bring your own boat or rent one, nice cottages, excellent fishing, and each cottage has its own private dock. The lake has pretty much every species you'd want to target.

It is a bit of a drive to get there, but even I want to make it back—and I usually go to the same lodge twice.

Not too far, at the top end of how far we want to drive but totally doable.

Thanks for posting the info on Northern Walleye Lodge, looks like a great place. I have been going up to longlac for the the last 5-6 years, great area but 14hr drive is long, this might be something to look at for the future.

Wish I could help you out here as I lived up there in general area some 30 years ago, but so much has changed in the lodges as well as the waterbodiess...I wish you every success nonetheless and feel confident you will find the right place.


last lodge I was in was in the Wawa area....lodge 88 where you have choices for brook trout, walleye and more. again long tme ago

Have a look at Green Wilderness Lodge just north of Gogama. Our group has been going up for our annual May longweekend trip for the last 13 years. Not fancy but clean and comfortable. 14-16 foot boats with 15 to 25 hsp electric start motors. Russ, Linda and Montana will treat you right.

You might want to consider either Marmac Lodge or Lodge 88, just south of White River.
Google maps shows White River (driving destination) as a 9 hour drive from Barrie, (not sure if Barrie is your starting point or not).
Then it's a scenic short train ride to the drop off point OR you can take a White River Float plane ride to the dock of either lodge. I believe they are owned by the same people and the lodges are only a short distance apart.
Either by train or flying, it's a fun experience. Fishing Lake Esnagi has a great reputation and lives up to it.

Same for others who have shared. There's a daunting amount of top operators out there, knowing those people have had good experiences with helps a lot.
