I can relate to the owl story, way back in the late 80's at Georgian Bay fish camp, one of the guys ended up with a seagull doing the same thing, that's bird had more moves than a rabid chipmunk, took 10 minutes to free that thing.

A story from when I was a kid fishing with my dad off the tip of Point Pelee, for silver bass. We were using two hooks and s sinker with minnows and catching two 12 inch bass every cast. There was a flock of seagulls after the baitfish just as the silver bass were. We ran out of bait so my dad took the silver paper out of his cigarette pack and put some of it on his hooks and they went for it. Then on one cast dad threw it in and looped one of the gulls with his line. The bait dropped in the water and two bass hit it. The gull hit the water and was like a float for the bass. We were laughing our butts off. The seagull was really peed off. Dad got the three of them onto the beach. The gull did not look very friendly so dad cut the line. The gull flew off and we grabbed the bass.
