Fished an old crappie hot spot yesterday morning. Started about 7:00am, fish were absolutely on fire! Landed close to 50+ in little over 3hrs. Dream of day’s like this, seemingly every cast w/ tube, slip bobber combo, got bit. Kept 12 for the wife and I, for a couple meals, released the rest. What FUN!

8-10’ of water, where sand met with tall weed edges. Only kept the males and spawned out fish. Still caught lots ripe with eggs…..
Thank you for taking care of the fish. I find it amazing when crappie fishing in one area you can find prespawn crappie, spawning crappie and post spawn crappie. There is one place I have fished for over a decade, where the crappie are spawning now so I leave them alone. There is another spot where the area is the size of a football field and only two feet deep. In that spot the crappie have finished spawning and are guarding the nests, so I leave them alone as well. Last year those two spots were not ready until later in the month. Fishing always changes a little. I love listening to experts talk about fish. Most conversations about fish are generalizations. Every lake is different, fishing in one Kawartha lake will be similar but not exact as the next. Some of us that have our secret spots for forty, fifty, even sixty years are very lucky. Good advice was given to me by a very old friend who is not with us any more. Even in your favourite spot, the fishing will change over time. You may catch many fish, or you may not. Don't get frustrated, don't give up. Just fish and take good care of the fish so they will be around for the future.
