Got out over the holidays on a small lake in Muskoka. Found 5" of good ice under 2.5 of frozen slush. Fished the 26th and 27th and iced a few dozen 8-12"ers in a total of 4 hours over the 2 days. Kept 3 12's as i forgot the pliers (and phone hence no pics) for the table.

Headed back on New year's day and the bite definitely died down. However I did manage 2 in a few hrs. A 16" splake, my PB, and a 12" that went back. I've been fishing this lake for 4 years now (early and late ice) and it seems the size of the fish are rather small. Most caught on live minnows with a few caught jigging spoons. It felt great to get out and enjoy the outdoors again. Can't wait for some colder temps to lock up the rest of the lakes.

Happy New Year

They might be small, but that's a lot of action ... a few dozen!? Sounds good to me

I wasnt aware any lakes were stoked with splake in Muskoka. Mostly in Haliburton and Bancroft areas. That is interesting, always nice to try new lakes when i am at the cottage.
