I arrived at Poplars Resort on the beautiful shores of Newboro Lake yesterday evening, just in time to get the boat loaded and in the water, get my "stuff" into my room and have dinner. After a tiring morning, I was in no condition to get on the water so I just crashed.
This morning I woke up to rain and the threat of thunder, so I spent the morning hanging out with some fellow vacationers. By the way, there was a large group here (23) who were bike riders. They were planning on going from here to Amherstview (40 min drive in my truck!!) then getting a ride back. The youngest of the group is 52!!!
Anyway, I managed to get on the water at 1pm. It took me almost an hour to figure out some sort of pattern, but I managed to land 2 smallmouth and 11 largemouth in about 3.5 hours. This lake is so full of milfoil. The owner here said that because the boat traffic over the past year has been so low that the milfoil had gone crazy! The pattern that I figured out was 15-18 feet on the outside of weed growth, but with a drop-off to 25+ feet close by. That's all that worked.
Nothing caught was enormous, but all were respectable in size (2+ poinds up to 4.2lb).
I LIKE THIS LAKE!! Apparently so does Renegade Tour because they had an event here last year with 60 boats.

Wed morning....slick calm, water temp 76°. Not as much action this morning, possibly because of a pressure drop. Managed to catch 7 largemouth this morning, including a 4lb 11oz beauty. Almost every fish I've caught so far has been on topwater or mini-crawfish on a drop shot. I'm doing some exploring of the area this afternoon, may get back out after dinner for a while.

Those fish had to have come from deeper water and just came up to feed on your baits. The colour is so green and clear, I bet they felt cold when you touched them. And I bet there is no black spots under the skin from parasites. Wish I was there, I would have eaten them already. Keep up the great reporting.

You're right J. Not a single black spot on any of these fish and they did feel cold. I caught the ones this morning near a weed patch in 15 FOW with 34-40 FOW very close by....like 15 feet away. Tomorrow has a rain forecast in the morning with the low passing a bit south of us, but I'll bet it's going to be a finesse day not a topwater day.

Day 3 has come to a close. Had a good day exploring other parts of the lake today than where I've been before. I can understand why Renegade hela a tournament here. There is just so much structure that 60 boats can have good quality fishing spots without being crowded on such a small body of water.
I did catch 4 largemouth today (one was 3.1lb). It was actually pretty funny because as I was bringing it in my net got caught in another rod tip. Fought the fish while fighting with the net, got the net untangled and put it the water just in ti.e for the fish to jump and throw the crank bait. It jumped right into the net!!
I'm very happy that I ran across this place in a Google search. Wonderful hosts, very helpful staff, and very good food. If I still have the boat next year, I'LL BE BACK!

It sounds like you are up there visiting friends you have known forever. The place sounds great, I am hungry now that you mention food. Enjoy the rest of your stay. CATCH ALL THE FISH UP THERE.
