Went out fishing with my two buddies targeting walleye and had the weather, the sun, the moon and the stars aligned right for us that day.
Started around 6.30 am and right from the get-go a buddy landed a nice walter on a jerkbait . And then another one, and another one…… And then I got 3 in a row within an hour. Then after a slow start our other friend started getting them after he changed his retrieve technique to more aggressive twitching with pauses.
The fish was stacked in weedy areas in about 7-10 FOW so we used 4-5’ jerkbaits diving to about 3 feet down, above and slightly into the weeds and texas rigged 4” paddletails.
After 9 am the direct weed bite has slowed down and we switched to deeper running jerkbaits going down to 8-9 FOW fishing them in 11-13 FOW and started getting the eyes again amongst the schools of perch.
Finished by 2 pm, having caught over 20 walleyes between three of us more or less equally and each got his limit. The last couple of walleyes were caught around 1 pm.
We released a few nice 21-24” fish as well as a few smaller ones in 12-16” range.
Had a great time catching fish, exchanging jokes and stories and had sausages, bacon and home grown tomatoes from a buddy’s little backyard garden for our boat lunch.
first walleye...
