Fished Sturgeon from 4 pm to 8 pm yesterday.

Water was 27C so I took a couple of dips from the boat to cool off. Quite a few boats after 6 pm on the water, both fishing and recreational.

The bite was short and lasted for only about half an hour around 7 pm but I managed to get 4 and took home 2 in the slot.

Fish was caught in around 10-11 FOW on weedline edges on deep diving jerkbait – Duo Realis 100 DR (it’s on photo), although I tried other lures and more shallow weeds as well.

Most people will fish the deep diving crank/jerk just by straight retrieve but I like to fish it like a shallow suspended jerkbait with jerking and pauses in between. Almost all strikes come on a pause, when the lure is slowly rising off bottom. Sometime a walleye will tap on a lure before smacking it. When you feel a tap on a lure , don't speed up the retrieve, just continue doing your cadence with jerking and pauses and in most cases it will chase it and crush it.

Really great pictures as usual. I call walleye the laziest fish in the kawarthas. Exactly right on your advice when you get that tap on the lure. When I am fishing my crankbaits and feel that tap , I stop for a split second and when I start up again that is when the big pull usually happens. But sometimes they tap it 2 or 3 times. So same thing stop and start and I slow it down as well. WALLY IS LAZY.

Thanks, Crappeeeman, and you're right with advise to slow the retrieve a bit down when you feel that tap. And yes, quite often they would tap it a few times before committing to smack it, so don't rush.

Another great report. Thanks a lot for the details.

On the weekend I went to a lake in zone16. Saw marks in 12-14 feet. Dropped a jighead with a worm. Got a pike, smb, catfish and a couple of walleye. One very small, another was a keeper. My first August walleye!

That's great! Congrats on your first August walleyes!
The worm and a jig will take fish any time of the year if you find the fish. Good job.

Nice report yes sometimes they want it sped up and sometimes only a pause retrieve will get them to bite.Glad you figured them out on your outing.

Nice pics.

I thoroughly enjoy your reports (I say that with envy)...keep'em coming JB.

You likely weren't the first one to hop out of the boat to cool off this yr. as the heat has been a brute this year.

Cheers,
