Trolling with a 20hp on a 14’ aluminum?

I acquired a 2002 Yamaha F20 long shaft and was going to run it on my 14’ Misty River W14 (fairly wide and deep). The motor is a long shaft and before I go and build up my transom I was wondering if anyone has used that much hp and sill been able to troll without it moving the boat too fast. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I had a 25 on a 16 and it was ok, the odd day if it was flat calm I would throw out a bucket. Even with the F40 on it now I can get pretty slow.

That’s good too know and good idea with the bucket too slow you down a little. Thanks fisherman

Yes I had a Yamaha 20hp 2 stroke on a 14 foot Starcraft. I could troll at 2-2.2mph. For pickerel I would either back troll or use my bowmount to get to 1-1.5mph. Mostly used the bowmount when I wanted to go really slow.

I troll with a 50hp at a crawling speed.

If you troll lots then maybe a trolling plate.

Basically I’ve been wanting to start trolling for walleye more now, was just seeing if it would go slow enough or if I should downgrade to a 15 horse
