Not sure where you got the idea that you can't eat panfish. They provide some of the best freshwater fish for eating. They are smaller so you will need to have some decent skills in cleaning the fish. All kids that "don't like fish" have never said the same thing about deep-fried perch after trying one piece. A friend's recently-turned "vegan" 8 year old came over and couldn't resist the fried perch we had and gave in....so now an "except-for-fried-perch-vegan"....I almost felt badly.

Crappie would be my choice as well (after Cod) then walleye & perch.

Id agree that their an incredible tasting fish to eat.
Ive only ever tried them once (20+ years ago)

Just so $%^&* hard to find through the ice,, especially when you dont have the time to target them.

I have a spot that Ive been meaning to head out to but schedules & work keep me close to home.

Gotta definitely make a point to get out there before seasons end in hopes of posting some more pics & scratching this darn itch !
