Crazy news. 9:30 is pretty much dark at this time of year so I wonder why two boats were going what seems to be fairly fast at that hour?

Not sure of the details of the crash, other than the obvious damage to one of the boats, but I see so many boats out fishing after dark, with zero lights. One we almost mowed down in the middle of the channel, right between 2 markers in a canoe. Just in time, he sucked on his cigarette and we spotted the light from that! We were just going channel speed, but it's like lying down in the middle of a dark country road and assuming someone will spot you in time!!! Last night we actually did see a few boats put lights on when they heard us coming, but that's been pretty rare. We put nav lights on at dusk when anchored or drifting, I don't know why that's such a problem for other boats? Even when we canoed, we had portable lights.

I see it all the time going duck hunting. I have mentioned it to some of those people. They just say they will see me coming and turn their beam on. On of these days they are going to meet some one else how has no lights and wont see them coming. Such a big risk for such a small price to buy lights. Many years ago now I was bringing in a 3 people from the island I was staying at so they could head back to TO. I was coming in the channel, one guy says what'
s up as he sees me paying a lot more attention. It about 11pm. All of a sudden I put to boat in reverse and stop it dead in water. There is a paddle boarder crossing the channel 10ft in front of me. I had seen the shore lights flickering and was trying to figure out what it was. That person should have died that night, as I don't really know how I saw him.

Wow sorry to hear the news. I was on stoney on Fri. a lot of boat traffic and rough seas. I was once t-boned on lake erie by a boater who was running wide open after dark with no running lights on, had I not swerved in the last seconds their out-board would have possibly taken my head off as the impact was to the driver side. We were very luck. Boats have no breaks. One lesson learned - buy an auto-inflatable life preserver so if you go into the water unconscious you won't drown.

So tragic, terribly sad. My condolences to the families affected. We see boats after dark without any lights on, It’s scary. You have to be so careful out on the lakes

I heard this morning that bald dude, Kevin O'Leary was in one of the boats with " supposedly" his wife operating the vessel.
She tested zero alcohol ( BAC) when the authority showed up.

Also reported was that , that particular boat tried to bail out of there after the accident but Mr. O'Leary claims the other boat tried to flee (!?!)

This might be a different accident. The O'Leary one it says Lake Joseph...not Stoney...

FYI - The boating accident Kevin O'Leary was involved in was on Lake Joe, from what I understand.

Cheers,
