It's often said that big bass don't act like their smaller cousins. Today really proved that to me in spades.
I didn't catch many fish, only 7 in total, but they were all larger than average and they all came in less than 4 feet of water that was flat calm. They all came on a slow moving Rapala Skitter Pop in the frog pattern...something about that smaller cupped plastic face really makes the fish love it, particularly on cold front days.
I fish it on a 7' MF spinning rod paired with a 2500 sized reel loaded with 20lbs braid and a 10lbs fluorocarbon leader. The leader really helps when bringing fish in through rocks and weeds that often have zebra mussels present.
Big smallmouth of the day...estimate it at close to 5lbs. Released successfully.
