Hi all, I have been going to the Mattawa area for years but have never thought to target Muskie there. I am just curious if there are many muskie caught in the area between Mattawa and the Lac le cave dam north of town on the Ottawa River, or would this just be a waste of time ?

Was searching through the forum trying to find any info on this exact section. I'm heading up to Mattawa this weekend to do some fishing on the Ottawa river, just north of the Dam around Dupras Island. I've never been up there but I'm expecting we will get into a mixed bag of pike, smallmouth and hopefully some eyes for the table. A musky would be a nice bonus when we're pike fishing.

Any info or tactics on the area would be greatly appreciated. My plan is to drop in to a local outfitter or tackle shop to try and pick their brain and hear some of the local legends.

Any info would be greatly appreciated - will definitely be doing a report when I get back.

I fished the Ottawa a few times a little further north by the Temiscaming dam, never seen or heard anyone mentioning musky in this area but pike, smallies and walleye were what we were catching. I know musky are targeted further south down by Renfrew area but it is all the same body of water so I wouldn't rule anything out when fishing the Ottawa River. My buddy lives on the river and has caught whitefish on surface lures and has targeted big channel cats down in the Pembroke area so I would say anything is possible.

Good luck and let us know how you do.....tight lines

I'm down river from there a bit and have never seen one caught but a little further down river from me they are caught. I've been targeting pike there for 20+ years and never caught a musky. Have caught a few sturgeon while fishing channel cats. That was a surprise.

I fish the Otty fairly often but I've never caught a musky there. I'm generally fishing for wallys. though. Caught a few pike, a few bass, saugers and some of the biggest fallfish I have ever seen. I'm sure the Muskies are in there, though.
