6 weeks out from our 3rd annual ice fishing trip on Nipissing, getting pumped! Going SSIC this time around with great anticipation!
This year our crew is looking to pitch in on a fish detection system to level our experience up a bit. I see a lot of different options out there but many of the reviews are based on outdoor glare, GPS location tracking, freezing temps etc.
I figured I would reach out to this great community to get some feedback on which units seem to work best inside the hut for a group of 6 anglers.
Appreciate any insight you can offer, we are not afraid to spend the amount of money necessary to get the appropriate unit, just want to make sure it’s effective and useful for detecting activity and staying informed so we aren’t jigging relentlessly when a fish isn’t within an eagles sight of the hut.

imo , It's going to be tough to read a graph or flasher with more than a couple people in one hut on one finder. still good to have one you will see fish come up off bottom but won't be sure who's line is the target

I agree with rayray. It will be tough with one particular unit shared within the hut. But I do believe it could be an advantage. Obviously the person using the unit will be in the know first. If everyone is alerted when fish appear, the decision on what lure/ presentation is up to the fish. Once this is figured out, it could be a level playing field

We put an ice transducer on a helix 5 (got it from c-tire) and set it to flasher with an alert system so when a fish swims by everyone knows and gets to jiggin. This seems to work well for our group...Hope this helps.

Maybe consider a Marcum or aqua view camera, they have a video output you can hook up to the tv and everyone can see what's going on below the surface.

Thanks guys! It sounds like it’s going to be a little trickier than an inexperienced individual would hope for, but still an opportunity to improve the experience, which is good.
I see MarCum makes underwater viewing systems, are these useful in Nipissing water, or is it too murky?
I guess all we’re really looking for is a way of determining when fish are in the general area, and when they aren’t.

Amazing; maybe this is the way to go. Good timing with Black Friday weekend deals at SAIL.
I see two different options from MarCum, I’ll check into some videos for these. If we end up getting one, I’ll update the post to describe our experience.
They need to create one with 4 cameras, a 360 degree view.

It makes no sense, but just in case you or your buds have money to burn - the Garmin Livescope would be the best single tool for the job of allowing a handful of people to use a single unit.

Garmin Panoptix liveScope is fun. In 18 fow it covers the area under XTH Pro Resort hut. We were able to see all jigs lures under the hut. It is fun to see fish coming in. Draw-back is price, weight. Mine is bult into a Pelican Storm IM 2600 case. All in one unit with batteries (Lithium), transducers, 9" Echomap etc. Set up so all three of us can see it.

I use the Deeper Pro an it’s awesome, don’t get the battery life as most finders but the 6hrs I get is well worth it, had it in a hut with 6 guys an it worked well I just the other guys set at different heights, that way you can tell who’s is whos

too murky. I have the aqua vu and only get about 4 feet of sight on nipissing. Leave the camera at home and go with the flasher.

This, we drill 3 holes and put the panoptix in the middle, you can see about 20 feet across in 25 feet of water and watch everyone's lures and fish in live time on it.

I've got the Marcum 485c. You would surprised how often the water conditions on Nipissing change. It can be clearer one day and murky the next. Even when it's murky though it can still be quite exciting to see a fish show up. The camera really works its best on clear lakes like Temagami. Here's my video about it:
