Wondering how long of a fluorocarbon leader do most people attach to their main line while trolling, down rigging and leadcore. I’m usually trolling on Lake Ontario/Huron/GB, so water clarity is usually pretty clear.

I run various lengths.
Behind dipseys between the dipsey and say a board it could be 6’ it could be 3’. If I am running a flasher fly probably 6’ or more. If I am running a spoon off a Dipsey I would say 2’ to 10’ depending on what the fish want. On a down rigger I just tie in about 15’ and run whatever length in the clip I want to.

I don’t think there is a set rule as if I run a meat rig on a dipsey I may only have 3-4’ between the dipsey/snubber and a flasher but another 4-6’ to the meat rig. Makes for a long rig sometime to land fish on but it works.

I usually just go with a rod length leader behind a dipsey just to make netting easy, also I’ve never really bothered with it behind a cannonball, just have a swivel on my main line which is mono. don’t know how much difference it makes but then again this could be why I don’t have my own fishing show lol

I bought a spool of 20 lbs flouro 25 yards, about 75 feet last year. And I split it in half and used 37 feet for the end of 2 leadcore lines. Now I bought another spool and thought 20 feet of flouro attached to mail line (p-line) used for downrigging should be fine. And use the remaining line for cheater lines. I wanted to rule out the fish seeing the main line. Is 20 feet plenty or go to 25?

if you run cheaters 7 feet is more than enough....for coho I will go down to 4 feet...they don't care

main rigger rods....you can either tie on a leader as others mentioned of 6-8 feet or simply tie on 40-150 feet to main line and never worry about leaders as they do require cutting and retying

The p line stuff works just fine

I got 100 feet on my main leadcore

dipseys .....6-9 feet depending on what I am running

don't know where you fish, but on my side the fish hook fleas are getting ready to emerge and be a pain in the butt
