Got back from the cottage last week and been working on winterizing the boat and an afternoon opportunity came up ...so, I went for it

got to ramp and still blowing pretty good at noon, then it just died off. Fishing was pretty good till sun came out and I had to do a run to get into some shade

it paid off

Wound up with some good perch as well and everything was on crankbaits..

Decided to pack it in earlier than I wanted to like 5.30 just as they were getting asctive again, but I had enough and had a ton of fun..I do not get to fish solo that often and every now and then it's a real treat, except for the launching and that stuff.

That fishery is still on so get on out there

Nice fish! I am trying to talk to my buddy about doing a run down to Erie in the spring for eyes. He's worried they won't be good to eat out of Erie, what do you guys think?

He's probably right

that's why there are thousands of people catching eyes there and the commercial fishery cannot sell any of their enormous quota catch..

no idea where he gets his info

i agree with longshank, they are probably really bad. That we why i would only catch and keep 40 to 50 a year.

Seriously, why would you or he think that the fish in erie are any different than any other lake. i eat pickerel probably once a week, from many different bodies of water and i don't have 3 eyes yet. i give a lot of fish away and those people don't question them, just say thanks

That is what I assumed. Thank you for the response. He's gone way up north to fish for Walleye his whole life and I am trying to talk him into going south instead.

While I would say northern walleye 15-18 inches are a sweeter tasting one than those out of Erie, it is also noteworthy to consider that many of the northern walleye have increased mercury levels since 1990, take a look at a recent study/report from U of T....just google it and Mercury levels have risen overall in past few decades even though Ontario has gotten away from coal burning, one of the major contributers
